Im in the same dilema, thinking hard about the Ibook, but don't want to shed out this kind of cash on a processor that may only last another year if that before it starts to cry.:(
Friends keep telling me to pick up a wintel notebook to get more performance for the price(which they are right) but of course I want to try out OSX.

DONT buy one from EB, Gamestop, Rhino Games or the like.
This is not always true, but the fact that it CAN be true, should keep you far away. They accept opened XBOXs as trades. Meaning, someone opened the actual machine (you can tell because the screw on the bottom are found under the rubber feet and stickers) probably screwed it up royally and just traded it off.
Also, I havent been in a store for a bit but the markup, as usual, is horrendous. A used XBOX for $80 is a rip IMO. When on eBay you can find the same thing, probably never opened, with tons of games and accessories for only a few dollars more.
Craiglist is also a great place to check out.
If you want an older XBOX, I hope you are gonna mod that bad boy!? This makes it worth every penny and will pay for itself in entertainment, if you are so inclined.
I just want to buy it at GameStop for the convenience. I'd say the risk of getting one that's been opened is just as big on eBay. Plus, as you said, most of the ones on eBay come with a BUNCH of games and most are more than I'm wanting to spend. (like $150-200 with a bunch of games) I'm basically just buying the Xbox to play Forza. As long as it works, I'm cool. Plus, GameStop should have a return policy on their used consoles.
I doubt I'll be doing any modding or anything.

for crying out load, who cares if a pc can do its sums better than a mac. My brother does maths better than me but i kick him in english.
In other words if i am more productive on my mac then it doesnt matter that it might be a little 'slower' it is a faster machine because i can work faster. End of story. New Thread.

I have been folding since 2000, however I have yet to run F@H for long on my iMac. Reason being, CPU temps reach 85C. Is this safe for my Mac? I feel that at these temperatures I will need to take out an extended Apple Care warranty.

Yup. I'm guessing this means we'll be seeing a new 19" LCD on or around MWSF '03.

I don't like that, either. Also, even more annoying for me, is ESPN.com, which plays video automatically, as well. I discovered today that I could Adblock the ESPN Motion thingy. I wonder if that would work for the Apple.com homepage, without screwing up future front pages...

A mispelling offers no proof that I'm lying about my age, and I'm not lying about it either.
He wasn't talking to you about your age, he said that because you haven't been very mature in some of your responses.
Bad form. Just because you disagree with something, doesn't give you the right to close the thread.
The thread's not going to get closed because dukestreet disagrees with it, if it were to get closed it would be because you've been rude to some of the other posters.

I hear Apple and the "adult toy industry" are working on a.. device.. that will accept a plug from the iPod and will... oscillate... to the tunes being played.
That should be exciting, no?
Reminds me of the Rez Trance Vibrator...

There is obviously not much in terms of speed differnce. However, in the benchmarks I have seen in various places around the web, the older model is quicker. One place I saw the benchmarks were for Macworld Magazine to name just one. I dont believe everything I read, just ones that are backed up over in many different independant sources.

I keep Firefox in my home directory, so I can use it in the computer labs without installing anything locally (and therefore breaking policy). I know that I'm not the only person that does this.

Amazing...you found your own site. How did you ever manage to stumble upon it?
And you steal MacRumors' articles. Have you no shame?

:D The antisocials. Geez.
To be fair, I actually liked the social atmosphere of a guild more than I liked the practical implications. I enjoyed interacting with people of decent intelligence (especially in the first non-raiding guild I was in, which was mostly just real life friends and their clan buddies who'd all known each other for years).

Man, I LOVE my NES.
Favorite NES games:
Ninja Turtles 1. I declare this game unbeatable without Game Genie.
Ninja Turtles 2
Mario 2 and 3
Contra
Castlevania
RC Pro Am
Mega Man 2
Excitebike
I'm forgetting several. The cool thing is, one of my friend's family used to own a video rental place before Blockbuster came in and shut them down. So they have virtually every NES game ever. We have the lay down mat for Track and Field. It's great!
The SNES might be my favorite system of all time.
Super Mario World - Best Mario ever.
Shadowrun - this might be my favorite video game ever.
Fzero
Mega Man X
Donkey Kong Country
Mario Kart
Rock N Roll racing
Super Smash TV
Street FIghter 2
NBA Jam
Great, great times.....

>(Nipsy) Knowing Apple,
Apple IMO only receives the chips, and Motorola should be most responsible for making the chips for Apple.
>if this is true, a G5 may be shipping by November 2003!
This reminds me to back last year with the flamepissed "Upcoming G5, G6, G7" thread, which had information about the G5 going up to 1.6GHz, along with the G6, and the G7. Yet, the G4 Apollo was mentioned to still be supplied by Motorola. So far, we haven't gotten G5s, but we do have a conference this year, to deal out all these issues. From there, more reasonable assumptions should be able to be made, and such sarcasm may not become necessary.
Guys, for those doubting applemacdude, remember what happened with APPLEP58? Almost no one thought he was telling the honest to John truth. And he was. I think certain "newbies" these days with insider information should be trusted until the point they are wrong/right. Then, IF they are wrong, belittle them! :D
applemacdude, do you have any more info?
BTW, if you (to non-contributors) think this is news, check out the Private Stuff. :p

It seems that this part of history will continuously be overlooked... no matter how many time I point it out.
Interesting history. Thanks for providing it.
The rhapsodyos.org site seems to be out of commission, though.

I've lost several relatives to cancer.
More recently I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002 (lost 6" of it), suffered through months of chemo, but came out OK, then in 2004 found out my Gallbladder burst, OK so the Appendix went also, then to top everything off the cancer came back and invaded my liver. In 2005 I lost over 75% of my liver in a 9 hour operation. I'm just now beginning to fully recover and my liver is almost back to it's original size I'm just grateful to be alive.
I Fold so others may not have to endure what I have, and Kudos to all those that do. I also try to spread the word and get everyone I know who has a computer to do also.
Fold On!!!

My beef with MySpace is from a usability and design standpoint.
Put simply, its attrocious.
Ditto! Although I never got in on the vain web-space thing, either.
Call me old fashioned, but I prefer meeting people in person, not online.
