Downloaded this last night and didn't even realize it was a major update. I don't see too many changes in the programs and everything is still running fine...A lot of times, Microsoft service packs fix things you weren't even aware were problems. A service pack like this one likely incorporates a lot of fixes already accepted as hotfixes for corporate customers... once they build up enough of them, or once a certain amount of time has passed, they lump all of the fixes into a single package and release it to everyone. Sometimes (but not often), service packs also introduce new functionality... Windows XP SP-2, for example, has a lot of new features in it in addition to correcting a lot of other problems.

Strictly-limited licenses seem to be the exception with these free loops :)

Hey all...new to folding here...and i just wanted to know if this is a good client to be running:

    http://calnet.sdsu.edu/mc68k/

I'm using the single processor one from that site on a 1 GHz TiBook (1GB ram)

Is that the most efficient one? (I don't need any visuals, i just want good performance)

    Thanks!

Oh, also...where does FAH store the logs for completed WUs or the progress its made through the current WU?

    Thanks

The one thing I don't like about the forums getting as large as they have is there tends to be a lot of repitition which I think can drive some older members away, like as mentioned before, a lot of things get stated or asked over and over again and it gets quite frustrating.

I think part of this is to blame on the abysmal search functions of vBulletin. For example, if you had troubles with your "Help Menu", just try and search for that. The search function treats every word as a separate entity, so you end up with everytime someone used the work "help" in a post. Yikes. That is, assuming it doesn't splat you with a "there are too many posts containing the work help".

Of coruse, the other problem is that people are lazy. Why look for yourself ([b]GIYF[/g] [Google Is Your Friend]) when you can just post at 10 different Forums and have it spoon fed to you?

As stated by spymac: The current iMac line may soon be shaken up and reconfigured, recent rumor and public information suggests.

Just weeks after confirming the discontinuation of the 15" Studio Display, retailers known to Spymac have come forward claiming continued difficulty receiving the low-end iMac CD-RW.

"This is the second delivery in a row that the [iMac CD-RWs] did not come through from Ingram Micro," says one reseller. "They're still available for order but are not arriving."

Although DigiTimes recently reported that 15" iMacs would be discontinued in October, Spymac sources confirmed that none of the other iMac configurations are experiencing ordering irregularities.

Earlier this month, Apple dropped the price of the 15" CD-RW iMac by US$100, bringing its price to $1,199.

"The 17" model continues to sell great," concludes the reseller. "Perhaps this marks the beginning of an additional 17" model to the line?"

Current sources did not immediately respond to questions; more information as it becomes available.

Although I'm not in the market for a new desktop (my 15" iMac is doing fine:D )
I'm excited to see what changes are going to be made to the iMac. I hope the style stays for a while though, I'd hate to see them put out a whole new iMac until mid or late 2003.

And it's only to receive BBC channels. We used to sell tuners that would not tune to BBC and no license has to be paid. Universities also sell DVB-T tuners that do not tune to BBC as well.
    Not according to this (http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/gethelp/faqs.jsp;jsessionid=4E5D81B2CFB43426911391B09921C843).
Do I need a television licence if I only watch programs received by satellite?

Under the Communications Act you need a television licence to receive or record television programmes. This applies if they are received by a satellite, cable or land based transmitter. If you are watching any satellite service, controlled from within or outside the UK, you must have a television licence.

You may have been informed, in the past, that a television licence was not required if you received television program services from outside the United Kingdom. This was changed in the Communications Act and if you are using your TV to receive or record television programmes broadcast by satellite from outside the UK, you are now legally required to have a TV licence
It wouldn't surprise me if they made TV licences mandatory for all computer purchases. Seems the next logical step.

People! Do we really want these people getting their mits on the beautiful iPod? Look at this pic from their home page... the 'average' Dell user puts their keyboard on top of the fruit bowl!

The mother is helping the daughter look up the words "profit" and "margin" in the dictionary. Somewhere where Apple will make more money per iPod than Dell will on some consumer PCs perhaps!:phttp://www.fourdegree.com/images/dim4550_8250.jpg

Apparently they found and plugged the leak:

    Greetings, folks!

By now I'm sure you're aware that our forums were hacked this morning. That's the bad news. The good news, actually, is multi-faceted.

    1) Thanks to many of you folks notifying us, we caught it pretty quickly... they were only hacked for approximately 20 minutes. We do appreciate you taking the time out of your day to tell us!

    2) We were able to restore from a backup less than 12 hours old.

    3) We found (and plugged) the leak. Apparently, we had an old version of the forum software sitting on our webserver and, though it wasn't published, someone found it and that's apparently used an old security hole to get in. The good news is that we've removed that and the only publicly accessible version is the latest and greatest, complete with all the security patches. So we're all in good shape going forward.

Again, our apologies for the minor intrusions into your e-mail box this morning. Enjoy the forums and thanks for participating and reading TMO.

    Best regards,

    -Dave & Bryan

But I do agree. I find phpBB somehow annoying.

I really think some hacker at Adobe has a mail forwarding system working, taking all of the customer suggestions from Quark and sending it to Adobe HQ.

Hence ID. Obviously Quark wasn't, hasn't and will never listen.

Cheers to a slow and painful death for Quark!

I got to see Belly for free here in 1994, and was right up in front of Tanya Donnelly. Darn is she hot!

    I envy you.

I was going to go see Julianna Hatfield, but something happened and I wound up not going. They did a Kick*** remake of the "Josie and the PussyCats" theme song together.

    Oh yeah, Quark still sux.

i keep looking at the charts and thinking that the mac folders somewhere way down the list should join us. i personally think that MacOS X are fine as they are, but we however could do with and extra 10k a day.... especially at the moment since we have dropped below 50k per day. i wish they would...

oh well. it's all for a good cause etc.

It seems we have a rival :D, if you can call it like that. It's about the same as folding, but is seems it is more specific for a couple of deceases. When I first read the title, Rosetta@Home, I thought it was only for the new Intel Macs that where folding with Rosetta, lol.

Why are they going to such pains to AltiVec-ize everything?

And why did they discontinue Logic for x86?

I can't understand why they wouldn't opt for that Power4 variant (if the recent rumor is to believed, which I don't think it is). It seems like the perfect chip for Apple.
