I wouldn't mind a Zelda mod. I've been hoping for an actual Zelda Wiimote, not some rubber skin. I'm not into the rough look though, but like others in this thread, it's just my opinion.

Quick question: Does Spotlight index all drives straight away or just the boot/system drive? Does it give you any options when it starts doing its thing?

Pismos...bah!

The tibook will eventually be discontinued...but I don't think anytime soon. But then again, the "major" updates that people are expected for the tibook in january points toward the discontinuation of the tibook...that might mean a new processor;)

Even though the ti has its problems, it also has an appeal. The thinness of the ti is unrivaled by comparable PCs (the laptops with a 15" screen) Sure there are thinner laptops, but they all have 12.1" screen. The slot loading drive also give the ti a clean, no-nonsense look, very conservative, yet the thin metal look makes it sexy. The ti is nice right now, and if they discontinue it at paris (I highly doubt it), i'll be sorely disappointed.

My two pesos :p

OK - I'm feeling better about my soon to arrive iBook. Thank you to everyone who has written in. Obviously it won't be as fast as a PB, but it will run the Jaguar just as well (which isn't necessarily what I've heard in other places - i.e. G4 much better in these regards). Also, I do want to put it on my lap and don't like the suggestion that the PB gets too hot.

However, I still haven't heard anyone say how much of a difference there is between the 14" and 12" iBooks both aesthetically and otherwise.

I do agree that it is effectively the break of a promise. Hell, it's the breaking of a contract... which is certainly quite wrong. But what if you believe the original terms and conditions to be morally wrong in themselves?

Yes, yes, I know. Don't use the software, but people do, and people will. In the scheme of things, considering all alternatives, I really can't see such strong objection. For reasons noted in my first post, the software will likely only be picked up by a small number of tech-savvy, yet honest users - and that's the thing. This is a very small market, quite unlikely to be distributing these songs over p2p - which is (correct me if I'm wrong) the main reason for DRM in the first place?

Trying to stay pragmatic here without advocating anarchy. It's not working.

Yours is a noble attempt at being pragmatic. It's very hard to be as liberal as possible and still maintain order :). You're right, people will use the software. It will allow them to play music on devices that don't support FairPlay or the AAC file format without them having to take extra steps to do everything in a compliant manner. It's a pain to have to buy a song, download it, burn it to a CD from iTunes, and reimport it. But each of those steps are allowed by iTunes TOS, whereas this software is specifically not allowed. They probably don't want to put iTunes music on P2P services, since they paid for it. But if Apple allows this software to go on, then it just takes one person to buy the song and redistribute it. At least the current system requires you to take ten minutes of your time and a CD to pirate from iTunes. It's not that big of a roadblock, and for the very small market you suggest, wanting just for their music to work on their other players, it's a small price to ask to prevent sales-damaging (as opposed to personal use only) piracy.

If you believe the terms and conditions to be morally wrong as they were presented to you, you should not have accepted them, so it's still not right to violate them. You weren't forced into accepting them. You chose to, and you chose them knowing the limitations. There's no cause for illegal action. Of course I don't mean "you" as in you particularly, but in the general sense for this post.

Other than the Sony produced films, is anyone using DTS? All the DVDs I see are in Dolby Digital.
I'm curious who their target market is, is all.

Again??

Best Buy has had an on-and-off love affair with Macs. Mostly off.

What is this, the third time they've decided to sell Macs again? Anyone wanna take bets on how it'll last this time?

Whatev, as long as every Mac is booted up in Windows XP I'm sure they can handle it.:p

At 1.2Ghz it only uses 19 watts, that's damn nice.

iMac 4Ghz - GeForce 5

iBook - 3.9Ghz - New ATi

I have been trying to find the information about the processor number that is used on people who are above 500 posts. I know it stands for Motorola processors used on Macs, but what is the number of posts needed for the next processor number, a list would be nice.
I just hit 68000, a nice round number;)

I don't think IBM has any incentive to "throw us off track". They didn't create this for apple. they created it for themselves and hope to sell it to others. They aren't going to lie to stock analysts and industry insiders watching this technology just for apple to be able to surprise us.

... they will not allow me to upload the file in any larger than two mb chunks. Is this using their Control Panel? If so, do you have shell and FTP access to the server?

The problem I run into is that because my database is about 25 megs in size...With reference o your thread title: 25MB is really quite a small amount of data, for comparison I regularly work with databases that are several hundred gigabytes in size.

I know Stanford said they update every 6 hours on their webpage, I was just wondering when I will get added to their list? I've been folding for around 5 days now and just finished my first WU about 3 hours ago. Should my stats already be there, or will they show up eventually? I'm not listed anywhere as far as I can tell, and I know I joined the right team (3446). Thanks :)

My oldest "extreme gaming system" has to be the Mac SE that my dad bought when I was around 3. That thing rocks. I really need to pull it out and play some Crystal Quest sometime.

I also have an SNES in great working condition, and an N64 as well. I don't consider the latter old skool at all, though. Heck, 1996 seems like just yesterday--me and my distorted time sense.

If I can't create sophisticated charts, access a large library of functions, create sophisticated array formulas, design pivot table reports, implement web controls, or program macros and create custom GUIs with an extended object library, then Google's offering is meaningless to me.

Hate to say this, but Microsoft will be king of the spreadsheet applications for a long time.

You and me can keep dreaming :o
I bought a 400gb Sata2 drive for £90. 20gb (or is it 30?) for £70 is ****ing ridiculous. £60 for a USB WiFi dongle is ****ing ridiculous.

I wonder if MRU would defend the price of it now? I remember he was quick to defend MS months ago on this issue, but drive prices drop every other day. Microsoft's prices do not.

Err you have some faulty memory Jimmi ;)

I've never defended M$ on price of the HDD. It's expensive, but yeah so are a lot of console accessories.

The only thing I have said about the price of HDD's in the past few months was when we were talking about the posibility of an 80 or 100gb HDD upgrade and I said I expected M$ to re-package that one as the one you can purchase additionally.

Also Jimmi - you are comparing prices & sizes of a 3.5" drive to a 2.5" drive  At least if your going to cast aspersions on other posters you could at least price up like for like and make your argument sound .....

But if your going to be anal and have ridiculous arguments.. And do you really think the cost of a wii remote is €50 or a wii component cable is €35....

The packaging, the casing etc....... all that adds to the cost - so to compare OEM components to a finished article is a pure inbred joke.

didn't know you could get one letter domains, I checked my host and they don't even offer it...weird ( I would tell you my letter but I would assume you would buy it up and charge me 10,000 for it

In general, single-letter domain names are not allowed. ICANN has a proposal on the table to allow them, but I don't believe it has been enacted yet. A few single-letter domain names did sneak in before they were banned in 1995(?), and they were allowed to continue...I think q, x, and z are the only ones in operation.

The problem with implementing single-letter domains at this point is deciding who should have priority for them. Yahoo! is very keen on picking up y.com. Regardless, those domains will go for big bucks when they're released.

I would bet you will find this hole in WMA stores for the same reason. Of course Jon prefers to target the source that will get him headlines.

From my limited knowledge of WMA from a miserable two days spent trying to help a friend's daughter with a crappy RCA player and Wal*Mart downloads, I think they may work differently. The license file is separate from the actual WMA file, so I'm betting the WMA is encrypted just once, with a long random key, and sent across the wire to any purchasers already encrypted. The key is then transmitted to the user and stored in the license file. Both the WMA and the license file are needed for playback.

I could be wrong, but it seems like it would be silly to separate the license information from the music file unless you were doing something like this. Of course, Microsoft is well-known for silly decisions....
