We have discussed those methods before, and that doesn't help. The 5MB are for new WU's, Beta units if I'm correct. -advmethods wasn't for Tinkers (or not getting them). And G5's can handle Tinkers, G4 and G3's can too. It only takes a bit longer. I also see a big dent in my output with my G5.

OK. Just a friendly piece of advice and empirical observation coming from hours of tweaking G3s, G4s, G5s, P4s, Dual Athlons, and Dual Xeons for maximum efficiency.

From the most recent queue.dat file of a Cube G4/1.0GHz running -advmethods and 5MB OFF;

Here be it. Decalgirl made one, but she needs to redo it for obvious reasons;

I'm going to glue a leaf and baby seal on my Wii, to represent that it's a green console, since it only uses about 1/10th the power of others. It makes me feel like I'm doing my part to save the enviroment. :)

From the sounds of the article this drive's internal, yet the new Superdrives for the Ti's are supposedly rumored to be external? It would make more sense to me for Apple to just wait until an internal option of the right size comes around instead of spending design time on a peripheral that will be unnecessary within a year.

The LOTR DVDs are all in DTS.

While on the topic, I haven't been able to play DTS with Apple's DVD player. I just get no sound. It works in VLC though.

It was supposed to be fall 2002 but because of demand on the PC side exceeding expectations, it could be a bit later or there might be just a trickle of the boards bound for Macs.

Ya, like others have said, when you buy a new Mac, you don't have to set your region (therefore it's a good thing you weren't asked to). ;) Also, when Apple says "5 changes," they count the first one.

The only time I've needed to set the region was when I got a new optical drive (after the first one died).

If Windows XP didn't have so much spyware attached to it, and required registration, and the insecurity that Microsoft is so famous for on its systems (yes there are still as many bugs and holes in XP for hackers to get through as in Windows 2000 and before), and the fact remains none of the source code is open, where at least some of Mac OS X is open and free for development purposes, I would have gone to Microsoft. Speed doesn't matter a hill of beans if your machine is so insecure you can't trust your bank numbers to it. Macs are faster in some cases than Windows XP, while slower in others and they maintain a level of security that doesn't require a firewall or anti-virus program anywhere near as much as Windows XP does.

I'd rather fly an airplane than a space shuttle with o-rings that leak.

What's more, who really wants to be forced to support Microsoft?
With a Mac you can avoid Microsoft altogether.

Anyone think that this has anything to do with the fact that Xservers arent out for Apple yet....?

no I dont. it all in how much does it cost compared to how fast and how much work can it do.

then you go to the solution that has the best raito. Apple solution may of been better per computer but dell ratio was a lot better so in the long run dell was the cheaper better solution to go with.

On top of that OSX extra are worthless to them for the rendering farms because chance are the software the farm is using was coded for linux so it not going to work as well on OSX. So now you everything down to the hardware cost. now it goes even cheaper to go dell since it might be easier to dell to drop the OS part than for apple to do it. All Pixar wants is hardware. The software from the companies is worthless since all of it is inhouse software and dell may be a lot more willing to work with spiecal request than apple.

On top of that Dell can deliver the products faster and when they say they are going to deleiver them. Apple on the other hand has a long history of delaying shipments and having longer shipping times to begin with. And as I said before dell was more than likely willing to work with the speical request than apple because they are a larger company it is easier to handle these huge speilized request.

annk - very strange. You should only get that message if you try to vote within a 24 hour period. I had no problems and I haven't had anyone tell me the same thing. I'm not sure what happened. The contest is about to be over anyway. Thanks for at least trying!!!

It worked now. That'll be my last vote, I'm afraid, because it's almost midnight here, and at this time tomorrow I'll be chaperoning my 9th grader's school party. (poor kid, but he's taking it with good grace :p )

the activation will help get rid of all the casual pirates... but the hardcore ones are going to find a way around, guaranteed.

honestly, I dont think I know a single sole who has purchased Adobe Photoshop... everyone I know or talk to has pirated Photoshop in some kind of way. I feel like the only one with a legitamate copy of Photoshop 7... lol
photoshop is just too expensive for casual users, like students who only really need to use it maybe a few times a month. the student edition is $545.95 here, i couldn't afford that unless maybe i was doing a degree that i would need to use photoshop everyday. unfortunantly my degree demands that i buy new clothes everytime i go on a prac because every school has different dress codes so that is where most of my money goes.

So what if it kills iMac/eMac sales? Let them replace the iMac and eMac for all I care.... If it could sell more than the iMac/eMac then that means there's more DEMAND for a cheap tower than the iMac/eMac, and in the end it would boost the marketshare. Take the LCD/CRT out of the iMac/eMac and put it into a Tower, and market it as a $899 G4 Tower, OC it to 1GHz and put in the fake DDR technology from the new Power Macs. I know several potential switchers that would be first in line.

As a previous poster said, I am also folding to heat my room. I am running FAH on my 3.06 GHz Celeron (aka My Server) (see sig) and it is amazing how much heat that makes. Intel's Prescott line of CPU's produce incredible amounts of heat, and the 3.06 GHz Celeron D runs folding at about 125º F, and my case is (shockingly) around 78º F. My parents are really cheap and don't heat the house enough (my room is about 63º F) and when I started running FAH this winter fulltime, I noticed that it went up to about 68º F.

More seriously -

I am folding because my aunt has had cancer twice, and this time it doesn't seem like it wants to go away. :(

Also, a family friend has cancer in her bone marrow, which they are not sure how to cure. They are trying but they can't figure out how. :(

TheRegister has an interesting article (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/04/20/portalplayer_loses_flash_ipod_deal/) about the future of iPod and the chips it uses..

Probably most logical steps, but may be a confirmation as well..

You don't understand what happened? Allow me to clue you in. Your domain company declared the domain unavailable because it wants you to pay for the name. Check for dogpeepee.com. I'll dollars to donuts that it is unavailable.

It wasn't my domain hosting company that wanted me to pay over the odds, they only charge $20 for the bi yearly registration fee. The company that wanted to auction the name to me is a company that said they owned it. When I typed the name I was after in a browser I was redirected to their website which auctioned off names. In the end it was too much trouble. I checked whether the name was taken by doing an availability search in a few registries all over the world and they all said it was taken.

But a couple of weeks later when I did the same search it was suddenly available everywhere? Is this a coincidence or is it some kind of elaborate scam. Did the auction company really own it? if not how was I redirected to their site. Also how come it was listed as unavailable through all the other hosting services that also offer domain registration. It seems that the auction company *did* own it but it must have only had a couple of weeks to go before it ran out and became available again. Coincidence or scam? I don't really know.

I'm sure the new DP 867 Macs are wonderful - in fact I think all the current hardware range is great. It's just that Uncle Steve wants everyone over to OSX, yet some of the machines are still coming with only 128mb (iBooks) which only just enough for OSX let alone any serious software (Warcraft 3 would choke). And 256mb in a professional level DP tower is just daft, Photoshop will eat that just by starting up.

What I don't like is the fact that it's made out to be some sort of favour, when you should not really have to upgrade something as fundemantal as RAM the moment you buy the machine.

The offers not even available in UK (where I am) anyway.

If you're in the UK, look at www.scan.co.uk for your RAM - that's where I got an extra 1GB for not very much. PC2700 DDR if you've got 1GHz or 1.25GHz. And I'd say 256Mb is too small for Jaguar. But 1.25GB is probably a little excessive as well :D

I've got a question and I didn't really want to start a new topic for it. I got folding going an here (using terminal) and it's been going for a few days. I downloaded the folding tracker widget and clicked the icon on the back and it still wont recognize by user name on the site (it doesn't find any users) and I looked in terminal and I found my ID number and put that into the widget and it doesn't get any info from it. How long does it take for the site to recognize new accounts? And why the heck after like three days can I not get any info on it? I'm getting annoyed I wanna see my stats.
What's your username, ID number?
If your stats are on the EOC site, the widget will show them.
