Sparky, I have my G5 on a time switch to reduce power consumption. It only folds when it's on (obviously), so that's about 6-7 hours a day. So, now is your chance to come close to me! Overtaking me is a whole different story!! :D Also, does increase come in a dual proc setup and does it/folding start automatically at startup?
How much faster the console version is Vs. the GUI client is hard to say. It really depends on how fast your Mac is. If you have an older Mac (say G3) then it's a significant difference. You have a bit of overhead on your proc of the images, which aren't completely for the Graphics card. Your proc also has to process it, giving a bit of overhead. My G3 400 Mhz B&W had a lot of this overhead with the GUI client. Increase will also give a bit, but less, overhead.

this would be one hell of an update if the TiBooks really get all these things. 1GHz, DDR RAM and a 64MB video card!  :D
I see the 64MB card in PowerBooks and 32MB card in iBooks FAR more likely than DDR RAM
1GHz is not unlikely because the top end machine is USUALLY the new low end so that would mean 800MHz and something else. 800 - 667 = 133. While 800 and 933 sounds more likely than 800 and 1GHz I think there is a move to get machines above the 1GHz mark.
cb911 - how weird, I read your sig and it reminded me of a Custard line and then I see ur from BrisVegas.... weird.
BTW, the line was "this world divides into people who think there's 2 kinds of folks and those who don't".

Okay, I'll give you the "films" there, but music?
A console is whatever it wants to be, so long as it plays games and these extras don't add to the cost of the system. Web browser works because I can easily just load it up and check emails, gamefaqs or youtube. Course it's never going to compare to a computer.
A TV guide channel would be excellent, and quite ironic.

I downloaded Firefox to see what the fuss was about. I like it ok, but overall I'm just sort of "meh" about it.
Safari rocks for me. As does Mail.

RogueLdr:
I thought they had gotten the heat down on the newer faster PowerBooks.
Why do you think that?
rEd Eye:
That laptop is HUGE compared to the PBook... Alienware doesn't even seem to say how heavy or how thick it is. And certainly Apple could change the PBook so that it has more airflow though a better cooling system, but have they, and how loud would that be? I guess I should just assume that they will improve the cooling system...

Edit: We all lambasted your URL posting but didn't thank you for the link. It's always fun to see what we were talking about in years past. I loved the "iPad" reference to a new PDA, as well as looking forward to a 733MHz G4.
Actually, the first time I posted the link it was as a "link" - but I posted it from a particularly dodgy Windows machine at a particularly dodgy internet cafe, and was having trouble getting it to work (as winter artifice discovered). I decided it would be easier to strip any sort of fancy code and just put it in as text. Annnnyway, I don't mind your lambasting, since I know you're all trying to help :)
I like the iPad bit, too. On the PDA front, I was looking around my computer the other day and found I had saved the complete set of iWalk photos and videos. Ah - good times! I think it's also funny how there's a rumour about what would eventually become the Segway. I'd forgotten how obsessed people were with it!

Office 2004 for Mac has Entourage as its mail/address/calendar/project database. It's pretty advanced, although I haven't gone through its complete uses. I know you can link different activities across the board.

You could add the argument --funroll-loops to gcc to `unroll' the loops and make it faster by predicting it more accurately at compile-time.

That looks like a cool interface for an in-car Mini install. If I ever had enough money to get a 2nd Mini and a touch screen, I would go for a car install. Can you create your own interface as well?? Seems like it to me but I didn't feel like reading the whole site.

16 Weeks till MWSF...
Heh when you say it like that it doesn't sound all that far off at all. Hey, not that it's a lock we will see updates to the iBooks @ SF and who knows we could see updates before then... Oct? Nov?? Guessing is a total crap-shoot.
heck going into the weeks before MWNY everyone was SO SURE the PowerMacs would be updated... They weren't... then one month later... they were (not a great update but they were updated).
Fact is you can't base your buying habbits on rumors... You'll be no better off and just drive youself crazy.
Second guessing Apple HW/SW releases? You'd have better luck playing LOTTO. :D

I had recently dedicated all my work computers to Folding@Home and quickly risen to upper 300 rank on the Macrumors Team.
I had discovered that most people in upper 300 haven't folded any units in past 50 days at all. Seems like people had abandoned the cause about a year ago...
Anyone cares to comment?

Bill Gates announced Thursday afternoon he will step down as CEO of Microsoft Corp. and company President Steve Ballmer will take over the CEO role. The changes were to take effect immediately.
Not true. Ballmer's been the head of MS for years now. I see you posted this lie in the other thread as well.
