I'm probably late on this, but just in case you haven't seen it, check this website out...
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.apple.com
You can type in any Web address and it pulls up the actual HTML archives from as far back as 1996. You can look at all the updates between now and then.
It's kind of cool to see how they talk about the products and look at the "new colorful eMac" ads.
Here's a direct quote from Apple's home page at the end of 1999...!!
"Prepared for the Millennium
When 1999 rolls to 2000, many computer systems will fail, but not the Apple Macintosh. Find out why..."

I wish people would understand that this program is mainly created so that people who use Linux (don't know if you have heard of it, it has a larger market share than Mac OS X if I remember right :rolleyes: ) can listen to the music which they have purchased.
Uhm why is the program Windows only then???

Come off it.
Have you seen how much Apple charge for RAM.
If you buy a new iMac and want one 512mb chip in it they charge $250 (keep in mind they remove the original 256mb chip).
If you want 512mb as two 256mb chips it's an extra $150.
They rip you off when it comes to RAM. If you can get it for a PC at half that price, I don't see why Apple should screw us for it and then make out they are doing you a good deal.
I'd never buy extra RAM via the Apple Store, you're just being robbed.
Besides, if Apple make an OS with high memory requirements they should sure there hardware can keep up.

I now have a new computer with the new pro mouse and I sometimes miss the hockey-puck because of a couple of reasons. The hocky-puck mouse was really light and very easy to quickly move around also because of it's lightness it glided very easily on almost all surfaces suited for a mouse. The initial problem of having the right side up is just that initial eventually it's just like using a keyboard and knowing where the keys are by the two keys with bumps on them.

I have computers running all the time, and this seems like a worthy cause.
My dad died from a brain tumor, and my sister recently underwent surgery to remove a large chunk of cancerous liver tissue [and is starting up chemo very soon:( ].
It might be akin to throwing splinters from the arms of deck chairs off the Titanic, but it makes me feel like I'm contributing, and the competitive nature of accumulating points is a geekycool bonus.

I'd like to see similar tests done with more RAM. I can't imagine any professional using a PowerMac with 256MB of RAM.
I was hoping to see better performance numbers, but I guess they're good enough. :expressionless:

I've used a tiBook 800 on my lap before and it doesn't get too hot.
my old clamshell ibook is only slightly cooler.
And the drive heads do stop, when you stop hearing your HD noise, the heads are parked. And if a head hit the platters, your drive would be dust, it wouldn' make it not last as long. silly person.

It does take a long time to load on older g3 systems. And after it loads, if you are a fast typer, you can type faster then it can display what you type.

I have a brand-new PowerMac G5 dual 2.3Ghz computer on the way and if it would be of use I am interested in joining!
Your PM will love you for giving it something to do with its idle time. You will get nothing but respect from your fellow folders and will be able to taunt (or get taunted by) them now and again.
There's no dark side about fodling. You, my friend, have seen the light. I'm awaiting the moment you step in to it before I wish you a warm welcome.

Actually, when running Jaguar the iBook is more than just a capable machine, the G3 processor runs very smoothly under Jaguar. And in the price range, category type of laptop it is I would say it is the best bargain per performance etc. Plus it looks way cool. Like I said though, you can go to any store and check out the pc's to see how they act, so you should really make your way to the closest apple store to witness what the machines are like firsthand.:D

Firefox 1.0 RC is pretty cool. There is a lot of new features added since 0.9.3. Firefox as live bookmarks, the address bar changes color when you visit a https site, the find (using /) now has a mini gui on the bottom.
I really like it. I hope safari engineers are looking at this to make sure they don't get out done.
Definitely worth the download or upgrade.

Ok before any more people really seriously think that the first definition was serious, here's the real explanation.

I used to buy lots of single player games way back, but these days i find the AI in the types of games i like to play to be far to predictable, gets boring very quickly :rolleyes:
I think the only recent single player game i played through was HalfLife 2, and of course epesode1, but i mainly bought HL2 for the multiplayer mods and other content

Interesting fact, Win NT was written by the same developers who wrote VMS (an old non-MS operating system from way back).
If you add one letter to "VMS", you get "WNT".
V -> W
M -> N
S -> T
I think "New Technology" just conveniently fitted the letters.
